Gaining Insight to Drive Solutions: Upstate Housing Tour 2024

New in 2024, the Upstate Housing Tour aims to introduce leaders from our region to the solutions our neighbors in Spartanburg and Greenville, South Carolina have worked through in facing attainable housing challenges. This overnight trip will bring together government officials, along with leaders in the public and private sector, who are seeking to help our region take the next step in resolving the attainable housing crisis.

Craig Logan, Executive Housing Fellow for the Charleston Chamber, shared his thoughts on the Upstate Housing Tour. “This is a special opportunity for leaders from our region to come together and learn how we can take the next step forward in driving solutions for attainable housing in our region.” Logan adds, “We’ve done the work to identify the problems, now it’s time for us to find the right solutions. Organizations in Spartanburg and Greenville are opening their doors to help us learn what works and where challenges may lie so we can drive the work within our own communities.”

The two-day trip will start in Spartanburg where OneSpartanburg will host several panels and discussions around their work in the attainable housing space.

Topics will include:

  • How OneSpartanburg Reimagined & Reignited Their Community
  • Connecting The Dots: Childcare, Transportation and Workforce Housing Development
  • Attainable Housing Incentives & Strategies

To end the day, attendees will tour a few of Spartanburg’s attainable housing developments.

That evening, the group will travel to Greenville for dinner at The Lazy Goat, before spending the night at the Hyatt Regency.

Day two will be spent in Greenville, exploring how organizations in the city have developed solutions for attainable housing funding, along with the successes and shortcomings of housing efforts.

Topics will include:

  • Greenville’s Attainable Housing Approach & Funding Solutions
  • South Carolina’s Current Housing Legislation
  • Lessons Learned: What Worked? What Didn’t Work?

Before heading back to Charleston, attendees will tour a few of Greenville’s attainable housing developments.

Registration is open now through April 5 and are available to both Chamber members and non-members. Want to learn more, visit the Update Housing Tour event page or contact Craig Logan at clogan@charlestonchamber.org
